Puppy Training

Your future relationship with your puppy is our priority…

If we can enhance that relationship in any way, we’re going to do it! Here are a few of our protocols in place to live up to that standard of care. We follow Puppy Culture’s program that instills the same virtues that we believe in. We start working with the puppies at 3-days-old. When they’re this old, they cannot see or hear. We start specific exercises that produce stimulations that wouldn’t naturally occur this early in life. We do this from Day 3 to Day 16 for 5 seconds each. Amazingly enough, these little exercises have been proven to build stronger heartbeats, stronger adrenal glands, improve cardiovascular performance, increase tolerance to stress and build a greater resistance to disease.

After Day 16, their eyes start to open, and they go from a crawl to a wobble. At this point it’s time for a designated potty spot in their whelping bed. Once the puppies can walk and eat solid food, we focus on 7-key things until they leave us to go be with their new families.

COMMUNICATION

We start communicating with the babies while they’re in the womb. Just like a lot of dads do with their pregnant wives, we start building relationships early. We want them to know our voices and guess what? They do!

EMOTIONAL STABILITY

We teach the puppies to recover from fear or stress. What do we do? We start by creating loud noises. For example: Vacuum cleaners, slamming doors, pots and pans, dropping books, loud TV etc. We also play the following sounds: fireworks, gunshots, ambulances, firetrucks and thunderstorms. We also add soothing sounds for the babies to stimulate their brains! We play Mozart and Beethoven for them at night while they sleep.

HABITUATION

We introduce new things in their normal environment to create a “so what response.” What do we do? We mix up their normal surroundings or add obstacles.

ENRICHMENT

We enrich their lives through learning and problem solving. What do we do? Simple things can make BIG impacts! For example: Moving their food bowl to another location and creating a challenge to get to it.

HEALTH

Physical wellness, at all stages. What do we do? We have a fantastic Veterinarian. Exercise! Stretch those legs!

SKILLS

Learned behaviors that allow them to function in society. What do we do? We work with the puppies at different levels teaching them different skills. For example: We work with them and teach them to sit for attention instead of jumping for attention.

LOVE

The desire to seek out the company of humans and dogs as emotional, positive experiences. How do we do that? We love to show and encourage affection individually and as a whole to each litter. We also like to encourage the “golden” people pleaser way of life!

Our Golden Dust baby is seriously a dream puppy, and we can’t imagine our lives without him. We’ve had a lot of dogs throughout our lives, all wonderful in their own ways, but this pup has been the absolute best tempered, most trainable, amazing with babies and kids, yet still incredibly fun dog we’ve ever had. My husband and I noticed a huge difference early on too from the Puppy Culture training that the Richardsons do with them. That made our puppy’s transition to our home and into all of the sounds and chaos of life so much smoother for us all. Amity, Heath, and Eden poured So much love and care into our fur babies before passing them on to us. They were incredible to work with and we cannot recommend them enough.
